Ways to Manage Your Curly Hair

1. Keep your frizz under control by rinsing your hair in cold water. Cold/cool water closes the follicle, sealing it from frizz and fly a ways. This can be your last step in the shower, so don’t worry, you don’t have to be cold the whole time.

2. Deep condition your hair at least once a week. Curly hair is susceptible to dryness. The added moisture will keep your curls manageable and soft.

3. Let your hair air dry. I know that sometimes this isn’t an option, but try to let your hair air dry as much as possible. The intense heat from the blow dryer will open and damage your hair follicle, creating a rough and frizzy hair shaft. If you must blow dry your hair, make sure to always use a diffuser. The diffuser helps to spread out the heat, preventing your hair from flying all around.

4. Always use styling oil. Make sure to use a very small amount. Pour a dime sized portion of oil into your palms and emulsify, then distribute throughout your hair, concentrating mainly on the ends. This section of your hair has more damage and usually needs the most attention. Styling oils will add shine, and softness, while helping to define your curls.

5. Scrunch for extra curl. Make sure that your hair is damp, not wet, then begin scrunching sections of your hair. This step is necessary in adding definition to your curls. Scrunching lightly will create the shape that your curly hair would fall naturally.

6. Use a curling iron to touch up any straightened strands. There’s no such thing as ‘Perfect Hair’, but we can definitely make it seem that way, by touching up any stray pieces of hair that just didn’t hold the curl. This will add the finishing touches to your overall look and create the perfect curly do.
