Do’s and Don’ts of 4th of July Fashion

Summertime brings warm weather, lots of sun and a variety of stylish wardrobe options. It also brings the biggest holiday of the summer…the Fourth of July! Although this holiday is a celebration of the independence of our country, it is also the perfect holiday to gather with friends and family to enjoy delicious foods and firework displays. You certainly want to show your patriotic spirit but you also don’t want to overdo it. Choosing the perfect mix of patriotism and style can be a challenge so learning a few do’s and don’ts of 4th of July fashion will get you on your way.

What to wear on 4th of July

Do’s:

Americans are famous for their traditional Fourth of July cookouts and picnics. Parks and backyards are filled with people gathered together to celebrate this festive occasion. Many people like to relax as they fill their bellies with hamburgers and hotdogs. Others like to work off their picnic calories by participating in sports while they wait for the fireworks to commence. Wearing the proper attire is necessary to enjoy every aspect of the day. A casual pair of blue jeans and a plain white t-shirt can be a stylish option for this occasion. Put on a simple baseball cap to keep the sun out of your eyes and add an American flag scarf for a stylish and colorful pop. This ensemble is not only trendy but it will keep you warm as the sun sets.

Don’ts:

Don’t overdo it with a combination of flag printed shorts and a corresponding top. This exaggerated flag apparel will make you look like you are trying too hard especially if flamboyant jewelry is added. It will look tacky and definitely not stylish.

Do’s:

Casual clothing such as a pair of white shorts or Capri pants and a striped blue top can be a fabulous combination for just about any Fourth of July event. Add a pair of American flag printed sneakers or flip flops and you are ready to conquer the day as well as the night. A tasteful and comfy combination!

Don’ts:

When it’s time to find that perfect site to view the firework display, nobody wants to trudge through the grass wearing a pair of flag printed wedges. Don’t be a stick in the mud with those sinking shoes!

Do’s:

Festivals and carnivals are also an American staple for this holiday. Where else can you get hot dogs, lemonade and funnel cakes in the same place? When all else fails, grab some red or blue statement jewelry. Statement jewelry is a hot accessory and it will go great with a plain white top. Get into the holiday with festival fashion! You can also add some pizzazz to your ensemble by including a straw fedora.

Don’ts:

Carnivals bring their own craziness. No need to dress from head to toe in red, white and blue. Honor your country in a more trendy way with jewelry.

Do’s:

Fourth of July is always best when basking under the sun while lounging on a sandy beach or poolside. When your plans involve swimwear, keep in mind that a patriotic swimsuit can make a statement all on its own. If that isn’t an option, you can always show your pride by wearing a little bit of red, white and blue. A red and white striped bikini bottom with a white top is a great summer suit. Add a light swimsuit cover or a sun hat with some blue trim for the perfect combination.

Don’ts:

Wearing the U.S. Flag as a cape, swimsuit cover or entire outfit is not fashionable. The flag is a symbol of our country and should be held high. It is considered disrespectful to allow it to hang to the ground while parading it on your body.
